CAUTION: SAILING INSTRUCTIONS WEBBERS FALLS POOL No. 16 NM 400.1 to NM 400.5

Webbers Falls Pool No. 16 has shoaling encroaching on both sides of the channel between NM 400.1 to 400.5 limiting channel widths as pool elevation drops below EL. 489.50.  The left descending bank has significant shoaling buildup through this area.  Mariners are advised that until further notice, all vessels should exercise caution and favor the green side of the channel approximately 20-ft off center line when transiting this area.  An increase in electric power demand due to recent winter storms has required longer periods of power generation, resulting in lowering pool elevations at times.  When the pool elevation drops to or below EL. 489.0 the channel width will be restricted to 80-ft.

NM 400.1 to NM 400.5 - Favor the green side of the channel

Due to the fluctuating and uncertain pool elevations and the significant shoaling in this area, all tows should use extreme caution and are asked to reduce their widths to avoid any accidents.  Waterway users are asked to check with Lock No. 17 for current pool elevation and the latest information.

Questions or request for additional information concerning this notice should be directed to Mr. Robert Steiner, Navigation Operations Manager: 918-607-0952 or Mr. Prag Mahajan, Navigation Field Engineer: 212-365-8116.
