Channel Maintenance Update 3 December 2022
Dredge Hurley, Mile 103-102 UMR
Upper Mississippi River

  1.  Due to the channel width at mile 103-102 UMR and to allow for safe and efficient dredge operations, a daily 12 hour river closure has been coordinated with the Navigation Industry and the US Coast Guard.  The 12 hour river closure will be from 0600 to 1800 hours daily, starting at 0600 hours on 4 December 2012.  The river will be open for traffic nightly from 1800 to 0600 hours.  Updates to the Dredge Hurley's schedule will be provided as work progresses.

  2. The Dredge Hurley and its attendant plant, to include tender boats, small boats, barges and pipeline, etc., work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When dredging, removed river bottom material is pumped through a pontoon pipeline, which may be crossing the channel, and is placed outside of the navigation channel. Mariners should be on the lookout for tender boats, barges, small survey boats, and pipeline when transiting the dredge area.

  3. The Dredge Hurley may be contacted on Marine VHF-FM radio channels 13 and 16. Mariners are urged to transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made with the Dredge Hurley.
